Mover season opens...and, then some

Apologies for the tardy start. I have been meaning to announce the return of 'move season' for almost two weeks.  Responsibilities have not permitted me to do so until now. Every year,  towards the end of January move horses seem to appear in droves.  I have profited by waiting for this time period. No different this year. See some of the charts accompanying this post.  Thank goodness, even when I don't say, I play.  Great start to the year.

Heaping serving of 'move gravy'
An  added benefit of looking for 'movers' is that one has to read beyond the obvious pp's.  And because the system is based on early-pace it often comes up with a gigantic boom. Attached is the result chart of Take the El Train, predictably the largest win price we will see at NYRA for the whole year; $259.
Note: This was not a valid move horse.  It was a real stretch.  I had no info about the jock or the trainer.

But in two races  El competed early (first call) against much faster than anything else in this bottom level maiden claimer.  The stretch out to a mile should put  the horse on or near the front on the speed favoring inner dirt track.   I was convinced enough to bet $4 across the board and exacta boxes with three public contenders.
Horse lead wire to wire. Collected everything!

Broke my arm patting myself on the back for this one!

Tis the season…humbug!

In previous posts I have discussed at length why  I don't bet from the end of November until the new year. .  Chief among them is the abomination called 'the inner dirt track (idt) at Aqueduct.  A close second has to do with the disappearance around the country of wagerable 'monster moves.'

Historically, the running line shows up during this period--but only as an indication of a horses' true form or lack thereof. It is not uncommon for more than half the field to display a 'move'  line--without the necessary information to separate them. Apparently barns tend to begin their genuine campaigns after spending holidays with their families and training the new three year olds.

That said, I apparently returned to action on the right day. Not only did  I hit a small superfecta at Gulf, my lone speedsters at idt set up for me to collect the second pick three and a healthy pick four.  My first IRS of the year. Welcome back!
